So, what exactly do you do with the "old" shirts? Last year's model (or for some, the last 20 years?) is shoved to the back of the closet.
I had a plan for the year. I would make quilts. (it sounded much easier in my head!). In August, Michael put out a call for old Shrine Shirts on the Detroit Shriners Yahoo Group. And the shirts poured in. And took over 5 laundry baskets in our basement. The generosity of Shriners is amazing!
I estimate that we received over 150 pieces of Shrine apparel. And then I had the task to make them into something new-- and something that looked nice! I completed the quilts at 2:30 am the morning of the installation-- but I'm glad I waited.. I had shirts still coming in after Christmas!
Below are the products of every one's generosity. If you're interested in one of the quilts-- they are going to be raffled off! Tickets are $2 each or 3/$5.
