After work, went to Southfield to meet with my Circus Committee, and a representative from a prospective location for this year's Shrine Circus. We had a very informative meeting, and there exists the opportunity for a Circus. As many of you aware, the Shrine has been the oldest tenant of the Michigan State Fairgrounds, conducting ciruses since the early 1920's. Unfortunately due to state wide financial cutbacks last year, the State Fairgrounds were effectively shutdown and the gates padlocked. Of course, if we want to continue the Shrine Circus we have to relocate, not the easiest of prospects.

A Little Known Fact: The very first Shrine Circus was held by Moslem Shriners in Detroit in the early 1900's. After many successful years, Shrine Centers around the country and Canada began their versions, all modeled from our circus.
