Short Work Week, and the weekend is about to begin, life is pretty good.
There has been a lot of Shrine work being done this week, but mostly via email and numerous phone calls, therefore I was only at the Shrine Center on Tueaday for a meeting regarding our commercial enterprise.
Preparations are under way for the Poker Progressive Social Party (Oct. 2), Oktoberfest (Oct. 16), and Fall Ceremonial (Nov. 6). We are also finalizing arrangements to attend the Great Lakes Shrine Association Convention in Rockford, IL in a couple of weeks, should be a very good trip.
Last night I attended a Masonic Memorial Service for our recently passed, most senior Past Potentate, who served our shrine center as Potentate in 1976. It was amazing to find out he has been a Master mason for 73 years, remarkable!!!! What a great turnout by the Nobility, paying the last respects we can for a departed brother.
I am looking forward to the weekend. The Chief Rabban, Child Care Director and myself will be attending a meeting of the Lenawee-Monroe-Oakland County Association of Eastern Star in Samaria, MI. They are making a contribution to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, and we are looking forward to speaking to the members of an appendant body, to spread the word of Shrinedome.
Of course, the kick off of the University of Michigan Wolverines is at 3:30 P.M. The next victim of their march to the BCS National Championship will be the fightin' irish of notre dame. I love this rivalry, it is actually my favorite game on the schedule every year. I know that the majority beleive that the last game against the buckeyes is "The Game", however, I truly love UM-ND. The matchup is fantastic, the two top teams in historic wins and win percentage. I hold hope, and am of course optimistic, but you never know about going into South Bend. Go Blue!!!
Equal time to the 2 spartan fans out there: good luck with the sisters of the poor collegiate program this weekend, or whatever minor team you have padded your schedule with this week.
Sunday is going to be exciting. We are attending the Shrine Zoo Day. Many of our membership's kids/grandkids/nieces/nephews will have the opportunity to visit with our shrine patients at the Detroit Zoo, entertained by good food and company. Hopefully the rain will hold off for us to enjoy the afternoon.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.
