Weekend Review June 4-7, 2010

Well, it seems that I have not touched ground in about 4 days. On Sunday we left the Downtown garage at 6:00 A.M. (about 20 of us) to drive to Erie, PA to attend the Annual Hospital Days Open House of the Shriners Hospitals for Children. In total, we had almost 50 people (Nobles, masons, eastern star, ladies oriental shrine, etc) attend. The majority of these never have visited a Shriners Hospital and boy were they in for a treat. Erie put on a class act event with a self guieded tour, lunch and beautiful presentation outside the hospital with a representative from the Imperial Council to talk about the role the Erie hospital will play in changing the landscape of our charity.
We returned about 7:00 P.M. and after getting some dinner on the way, arrived home at 8:00 P.M. A very, long day, but a very self-satisfying day, in that it cements in our hearts why we are Shriners.

Monday: You think I would stay home, no, no, no. The Treasurer picked me up after work, then we picked up the Chief Rabban following a day of golf on his part and drove out to visit the Jackson Shrine Club in Cement City, MI. It is about an hour and 45 minutes from my house. We met at a frequented watering hole where we had some delicious all you can eat walleye and talked about Shrine and Hospitals for a couple of hours. What a dedicated group of Nobles, wives and ladies. They actually had 2 new members who just came through in the Spring Class, and I had the opportunity to welcome them into the Jackson Shrine Club.

Got home around 10:30, Carrie was sleeping and I did not wake her up, for once.

Tuesday will see me at the Shrine Center for the Financial Advisory Committee, a Board of Directors meeting, and then attending the Highlanders Business Meeting. All in all a fun evening to be sure.

By the way, have I mentioned that Carrie and I are getting a new cat (that will make 3). Yes, we were suckered in when we saw this georgeous black cat at PetSmart, he is about 5 months old and we are probably picking him up on Thursday. I hope we do not turn into that house, where rumors spread that we have 100's of cats, oh well, we will have fun.
