Well, it is slow going and I am still having a little problem with the pleuresy, but getting better.
The weekend was great. Saturday, Carrie and I attended a party with some friends and enjoyed pounds and pounds of crab (well I did anyway, Carrie had chicken).
Sunday, I was able to finally get some yardwork down before the rain came down. Carrie and I spent the rest of the day finalizing the plans for Toronto.
I am now sitting in the Pote's Office, it is 8:45 P.M. on Monday, and the Chief Rabban is laughing and mocking me for blogging. He states no one cares what the Potentate does everyday, and all the travels he does on a consistent basis. He is originally from South Dakota, so that should explain everything.
I am now done with Shrine business for the rest of the week. We are leaving Saturday morning for Toronto and the Imperial Convention and will be preparing for the trip.
We have 60 + people and are very excited about the week. I will try to give you a daily brief from Toronto if the camel's milk ceases for any time.
Much Love

Week in Review
How do I describe this week, well, one word: Pleurisy (also known as pleuritis) is an inflammation of the pleura,[1] the lining of the pleural cavity surrounding the lungs. Among other things, infections are the most common cause of pleurisy.
Initially I thought I had bad allergies, which then turned into a sore throat/congestion (cold) and now I am having painful breaths. Tuesday evening was so bad that Carrie wanted to take me to the hospital. I went to se my physician on Wednesday who diagnosed Pleurisy. I never had it and never want to again. He prescribed some strong NSAIDS for the next ten days. Therefore, my activity has been limited a little.
I did attend the Appointee's Party on Wednesday evening, what a success. The appetizers were incredible, large shrimp, delicious hummous, and chicken kabobs.
dinner: Swordfish filet and steak, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I was very pleased at the attendance and thought everyone had a great time. These are the Noble's who have worked really hard this year and every year in order to make the Shrine Shine!!!!!
Well, we are getting ready for Toronto, we leave Saturday July 3 and are finalizing the details (which are basically done). I am also pleased at the contingency going to Toronto, which should exceed 60 Nobles/Ladies. I do not believe we have had such a large contingency in quite some time and cannot wait to see everyone enjoy the Shrine experience.
The weekend will be busy getting ready, but I will take some time to enjoy a very special dinner of King Crab legs on Saturday with some friends. If anything, I am self-prescribing hot drawn butter to assist in my condition.
Be Well and enjoy the weekend.

Monday June 21, 2010
First day of Summer '10 and I am still fighting a cold. It has now been a week and I am battling the end results of a brief cold; the congested cough. I feel much better, but probably have a couple of more days before full recovery.
It was a busy weekend. We participated in our 3rd official shrine parade of the season in Canton. Unfortunately, many of our members lost power the night before, due to the inclement weather and 50+ mile winds, therefore the participation was a little less than previous years. The same held true with the general turnout in the audience, which probably was half as populated as previous parades.
We finished real fast, about 10:15 AM. I was in my car and headed over to the afterglow, being held by the Shrine's Chief Aide about 8 miles away. What a beautiful early afternoon, great food, cold camel's milk, great company. I left around 3:00 and met Carrie at home, and we went out for dinner.
Sunday: My Uncle had asked Carrie and I to be the godparents of my youngest first cousin, Maya Lisa Dib. Maya is now 5 months old and we attended her baptism Sunday. She was perfect throughout the entire ceremony. We ended up at my uncle's house where we feasted the rest of the evening, the food was incredible.
It is now Monday June 21, the first day of summer (fast, fast, fast, too fast). I have a Board meeting this afternoon and then two Units are beginning their abbreviated Summer meetings at the Shrine Center. I am excited to see how many Nobles attend this evening, which is something that I have been trying to accomplish for a long time.
It is going to be a busy week, but we are less than 2 weeks from the Imperial Convention in Toronto. I cannot beleive it is that time.
There are still way to many Nobles and their ladies that are ill and suffering many health problems, and our thoughts are with them all for a speedy recovery.

June 15-19, 2010
I thought I started the week off with some bad allergies, it turns out that I had a full blown cold, one that really hit hard (i.e. sore throat, head ache, congestion, cough). I went to work and that is about all I have done this week. I have been using overdosing on Vitamin C, and switching between day and night cold medicines. It is Saturday morning and I am still not recovered and am getting ready to head to Canton to walk in the parade.
I am hearing that many people are without power, which I am totally surprised that we have not been hit. Usually this part of Sterling Heights is always first to lose power, but at least that is one positive for the week.
Summer colds, ughhhhhh!!!!!

June 15, 2010
Last night was a regularly scheduled Temple Business meeting. I got to the Shrine center around 4:00 P.M. and met briefly with the Board to discuss some matters that may be very beneficial in the near future.
We also had two new young candidates to be initiated in the short form ritual which we conducted prior to the business meeting.
I know that the June Business meeting is usually most attended meeting, besides the annual elections, due to the snow birds return for the summer, but to my amazement there were over 100 Nobles in the audience when I stepped up to the podium. I later found out that the Hungry Five served more hot dogs/sausages, grilled onions/peppers/mushrooms than any other business meeting (I finally had one after the meeting and all I can say is hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm).
The Business of the Temple went pretty smoothly, I was really satisfied with the outcome, and one proud moment was our Membership Director called to the stage 10 of the newest Nobles from the Spring Ceremonial to be recognized. He had organized a small gathering prior to the meeting and wined and dined the new candidates and then took them on a tour of the entire building. My job is easy with Nobles like our Membership Director who take the proverbial bull by its horns and succeed in their goals.
I stuck around until about 10:30 saying hello to some of the units and got home to a very, very, very active kitty (did I mention the level of activity of Mays). I do not remember Ruth and Cobb being this active when they were kittys. Anyway, hopefully he brings some enthusiasm to the other two. Carrie stated that there was a 3-way brawl during the evening, but the outcome was very positive, family bonding, team building, just the same as in any well-run organization. I guess I should study their interaction further, ha, ha.
Tuesday June 15, 2010 I think I am taking the evening off from the Shrine. Everybody is still talking about the Pote's Ball and the wonderful job that Carrie and her team accomplished. Isn't she swell (understatement of the year).

2010 Potentate's Ball
So many people have asked Carrie and I whether we are having a good time this year, because the next thing we know it will be done and if we are miserable, we will live the rest of our lives regretting our decision to be part of the Shriners.
WELL, for those of you who attended The Henry Ford on Saturday evening, I hope that you witnessed the type of mood my beloved and I are in; IT KEEPS GETTING BETTER!!!!
OMG what a great evening. It began by heading to the hotel at around 2:00 P.M. We checked into our room and headed to the hospitality room, it was already packed. The Chief Aide and his crew, along with an incredible Past Potentate had a wonderful "Camel's Milk Stand" and delicious food for all those at the hotel. We were able to socialize with probably around 60 Nobles, ladies and guests, and partake in some special version of Camel's Milk, the exclusive variety from Scotland.
At arond 4:30 P.M. Carrie dragged me out and we changed, got into the shuttle and drove the 2 miles to The Henry Ford. To say it was slightly humid would be the understatement of the year. Anyway, it only took a few minutes. We walked into such a beautifully laid out entertainment venue. The first thing I saw was a incredibly designed ice statue with one of the most recognized emblem in the universe, WOW!!!!!!!!!
We spent the next hour taking pictures all over the museum, for as you may be aware the ENTIRE Henry Ford Museum was exclusively open to Shriners the whole evening, and YES we took advantage of this private tour (although some photos may have to wait until certain statute of limitations expire).
Prior to the entrance of the Nobility, Carrie and I met each guest at the door and welcomed them into the museum. It seemed that time flew by, because the next thing was the Grand March. Our special dedicated nobles who organized the grand march were incredible, as were they in checking everyone in and as far as I know with very limited issues.
Since we were the last ones to enter, I could not follow the introductions, but I heard later the Emcee did a wonderful job of ensuring our special guests from the Order of Al Hambra, Ladies Oriental Shrine and visiting Shrine temples were introduced. Unfortunately my friend from the Daughters of the Nile had a previous commitment, however it would have been great to introduce her also.
DINNER: I really was not that hungry, but to ensure the overindulgence of camel's milk, I "forced" myself to eat the delicious filet. Carrie and I decided this was the good time to bring out our gift to all the ladies, and let me tell you this is where my Bride Shines and goes beyond everyone's expectations. I honestly believe there was not one lady that did not appreciate the maize/blue slippers, to wear throughout the evening. (Note: even the female employees present were amazed by this concept and were very impressed by the gifts). That is my wife, Carrie put this entire shin-dig together and she is truly an Amazing talent.
However, she had a chairlady for the Pote's Ball and boy did she come through. She found the perfect compliment to ensure everyone visited every corner of the museum, a Scavenger Hunt, what a truly brilliant concept, that I saw was enjoyed by all.
Well, prior to getting everybody up and around, dessert had to be served, and boy was it enjoyed. How can anyone not like Faygo Ice Cream Floats, Sander's hot fudge sundaes, and delicous Sander's Bumpy Cake (or was that Wavy Cake). Although I refrained from the most of this Calorie-Free dessert, I did grab a bottle of ice-cold Rock and Rye (I feel so sorry for anyone who has never tried such a delicious, sweet elixir - hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!)
Now the party truly began, we initially had a live band, but then decided to switch to a DJ, I think in the end, I heard more people compliment the manner of DJ rather than the traditional band. Carrie warned the DJ to have at least 7 versions of the Hustle and he laughed at us, but in the end I believe that he played it more than 7 times.
Although he was great, like I previously mentioned the true entertainment was being able to walk around the entire museum at your own leisure and witness/interact with everything from trains to silver. Carrie actually arranged to have three of the main attractions to be staffed, the Diner, the Rosa Parks Bus and the Dynamicon Round aluminum house. IncreDIBle, that is all I have to say. Carrie really outdid herself this time, I LOVE HER!!!!!!
We left around midnight, got back to the hotel and the hospitality room was packed. I left around 2:00 A.M. and there were still probably a dozen people enjoying hospitality.
I cannot thank my wife enough for her efforts in ensuring everyone had a great time. It did not matter who was being honored, I hope that every guest felt special this evening, that is what Carrie wanted to accomplish and I believe that she was successful.

Time Flies
I cannot believe it is Friday June 11, 2010. Where has this week gone, let alone the first half of the year.
Carrie and I are driving all over town today in preparations for the Pote's Ball on Saturday, for some last minute errands.
We also had a new addition to our family this past Wednesday. Mays, a beautiful 5 month old black cat, joined Ruth and Cobb as part of the fold. He is so energetic, and we hope he will pass some along to the other two cats. So far he has been well received, with a few minor altercations with Ruth, which is understandible, since she has ruled the roost for so long.
Anyway, the last two days have also been somewhat shrine-free. I have taken care of some personal things, like dr's appt and new brakes on the car. You have to dedicate a portion of your time to your usual vocation in order to maintain a healthy household. I also made dinner for Carrie last night, no big deal just tacos.
Anyway, we both feel excited about the Pote's Ball. When we first attended an event there 3 years ago, we both felt this would be an interesting venue, and I think we will not be disappointed. There are a few surprises in store and we cannot wait.
As for now, enjoy your weekend, and if you are attending we will see you at The Henry Ford.

Weekend Review June 4-7, 2010
Well, it seems that I have not touched ground in about 4 days. On Sunday we left the Downtown garage at 6:00 A.M. (about 20 of us) to drive to Erie, PA to attend the Annual Hospital Days Open House of the Shriners Hospitals for Children. In total, we had almost 50 people (Nobles, masons, eastern star, ladies oriental shrine, etc) attend. The majority of these never have visited a Shriners Hospital and boy were they in for a treat. Erie put on a class act event with a self guieded tour, lunch and beautiful presentation outside the hospital with a representative from the Imperial Council to talk about the role the Erie hospital will play in changing the landscape of our charity.
We returned about 7:00 P.M. and after getting some dinner on the way, arrived home at 8:00 P.M. A very, long day, but a very self-satisfying day, in that it cements in our hearts why we are Shriners.
Monday: You think I would stay home, no, no, no. The Treasurer picked me up after work, then we picked up the Chief Rabban following a day of golf on his part and drove out to visit the Jackson Shrine Club in Cement City, MI. It is about an hour and 45 minutes from my house. We met at a frequented watering hole where we had some delicious all you can eat walleye and talked about Shrine and Hospitals for a couple of hours. What a dedicated group of Nobles, wives and ladies. They actually had 2 new members who just came through in the Spring Class, and I had the opportunity to welcome them into the Jackson Shrine Club.
Got home around 10:30, Carrie was sleeping and I did not wake her up, for once.
Tuesday will see me at the Shrine Center for the Financial Advisory Committee, a Board of Directors meeting, and then attending the Highlanders Business Meeting. All in all a fun evening to be sure.
By the way, have I mentioned that Carrie and I are getting a new cat (that will make 3). Yes, we were suckered in when we saw this georgeous black cat at PetSmart, he is about 5 months old and we are probably picking him up on Thursday. I hope we do not turn into that house, where rumors spread that we have 100's of cats, oh well, we will have fun.

Friday June 4
I was at the Shrine Center on Thursday afternoon for a meeting, but did not stay too long, although had the opportunity to briefly meet with the Past Masters. I left around 7:00 P.M. to drive across town to attend my blue lodge business meeting. I have not had too many opportunities to attend this year due to the busy schedule, but it was nice to see the Brothers. Actually I got to see my real brother and cousin and catch up on things.
Not too late of an evening, home by 10:30 and sleeping by 11:30P.M.
It's been a long week at work (eventhough only 4 days). Not too much tonight or Saturday, but Sunday we will be leaving at 6:00 A.M. to attend the Open House at the Erie Shriners Hospital for Children. I always enjoy travelling to the hospitals, Carrie and I have visited 6 hospitals in our system. The true nature of our charity is revealed by just one visit, but to see how the entire system works on an international level of is awesome. It really gives you an impression of the vastness and uniqueness of the hospital system.
Much more about the trip on Monday. Have a great weekend.

Wednesday June 2
I had a very nice meeting with our Chief Rabban and some other nobles this afternoon, which I found insightful and productive. I feel that plans are taking shape and soon implementation of a course of action will be in reach.
Afterwards, my general chairman and myself went to visit our Past Potentate who recently suffered a stroke. He has been relocated to a step down rehabiliation center and is improving very nicely. I truly beleive that the lesson here is that if you feel sick and it is not normal don't wait, seek medical attention. Thank god his wife was a retired nurse and did not hesitate to get him emergency services.
More meetings tomorrow and the weekend is soon upon us.
I also feel so very bad for Armando Gallaraga who really pitched a perfect game this evening for the Tigers. What a disappointing call by the 1st base umpire, a travesty for a young pitcher. I guess we take solace in the great performance and a win for the Tigers.
