Wow, Wow, Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! For anyone interested in whether the Shrine is an organization on the decline, then you definetly were not in attendance for the Annual Shriners Family Picnic, Sunday afternoon. 400+ Nobles, Ladies, children, grand-children, family and friends enjoyed beautiful sunny weather, great food and refreshments, various children activities and fellowship.
We estimated between 225 and 250 people, based on the previous several years, and we were pleasantly surprised to see everyone show up for great times.
I sat back and watched so many newer nobles from the Spring Ceremonial interact with Shrine veterans and vice versa. I loved seeing so many kids with smiles on their faces as they tried to kick their shoes the farthest, not break water balloons, or slide down that enormous air slide.
I keep repeating myself, but it is true, the Shrine is alive and well.
Carrie and left around 6:30 P.M. and there were still people sitting outside enjoying themselves. It is truly great to be a Shriner.
By the way, I forgot to mention that on Saturday morning, I met our Sportsman's Raffle Chairman at 9:00 A.M. at Gander Mountain and we went on a shopping spree for door prizes that will be offered during the fundraiser. We had fun scouring all the areas and picking items we felt those in attendance would appreciate. It was almost a type of kid in a candy store type moment.
This week proves to continue to be busy including a Board meeting this afternoon, finance meeting Tuesday, a couple of meetings on Wednesday. I was supposed to go out of town this weekend, but plans changed, therefore Carrie and I will actually have our first free weekend since late April. We are contemplating where to go, or waht to do. On one hand we could sit at home, a well deserving reward, and do nothing, or keep our busy pace and get away over the weekend. We will see.
