We had a wonderful Monday evening at the Shrine Center. Many Units are now meeting on the first Monday of the month, and the hallways are full of Shriners, it is truly a great site.
I had to cancel the Board meeting Monday, due to a couple of other meetings requiring my attention, however, I had the opportunity to welcome back many snow birds, returning from the winter migrations. I made sure to point out that our average temperature was above normal this winter while Florida's was very below. It was good to see many of the Nobles returning, it gives me a sense that the Shrine is kicking into second gear for the year, let the good times roll.
Tuesday, I got to the Shrine Center around 4:30 PM and was fortunate to be able to complete a lot of paperwork. Carrie showed up around 5:30 and we spent a good part of the evening finalizing the Potentate's Ball details.
I also had a chance to review the latest accomplishment for this year. Once again we took another "traditional" idea, which was really a complacent, recurring, incorrect procedure, however due to the many years of implementation became some type of "policy", examined the facts of the situation and turned it around towards the correct path.
I am so proud of our Board Members, especially our High Priest and Prophet, who does not stop amazing me with his feats. I will not go into details, however, after many Nobles stating that if we were to update/change/amend certain vehicular titles we would face huge penalties, taxes, fees, etc. (blah, blah, blah), he was able to accomplish the task (that went on for some 20 years) and corrected everything, in accordance with the laws of the land and Imperial by laws.
I tip my fez to another accomplishment, and keep reminding myself and everyone that complacency is truly the root of all evil. We were taught an important phrase during our Oriental Guide Training session in Tampa (i.e. Shrine Camp) five years ago: "If you keep doing what you have done, you are going to keep getting what you have got" This mantra has stuck with me throughout my tenure as a leader of this organization, and I have attempted to successfully implement the solution whenever a situation arises that requires such attention.
Anyway, The Dramatic Corps met this evening as well, and I can see their enthusiasm as they prepare for the new and improved first section of the ceremonial, which is only a week and half away. I cannot wait to see this performance.
I have to go to the Shrine Center after work this afternoon to attend a special Board of Directors meeting.
